Tigers vs Raiders

The first quarter of the game went back and forth each team making costly errors as a misty rain made the passing game difficult and the footing while running unsure. At the end of the first quarter no one put points on the board.

The score  Tigers 0 – Raiders 0.

The second quarter scoring began with 14:26 left on the clock as the Raiders put together a 9 play, 69 yard drive that ended in a 27yard Touchdown pass. The point after kick was wide.

The score Tigers 0 – Raiders 6.

Tigers turn…4 minuets later with 10:29 showing on the clock the Tigers toped off an impressive 11 play, 73 yard drive of their own with a 15 yard touchdown pass to #32 Byrd from #9 Johnson. The point after was good by #20 Palacios.

The score Tigers 7 – Raiders 6.

Tigers turn again…With time running out in the first half, the Tigers defense slam the door shut on the Raiders and gave the ball back to their offense 61 yards away from a score. With only :07 left on the clock #20 Palacios kicked a 40 yard field goal to put the Tigers ahead at the half.

The score Tigers 10 – Raiders 6.

The theme for the second half could have been… I am my worst enemy.

The third quarter belonged to the defensive squads as both teams came out determined not to give up points. To start the scoring for the second half it was the Raiders turn. But not on the offensive side of the ball. With 8:04 left in the 3rd  quarter #46 for the Raiders picked off a Tigers pass and returned it 23 yards for a Raiders touchdown… Giving the raiders a 2 point lead 12- 10. The point after once again failed.

The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was Tigers 10 – Raiders 12.

The Fourth quarter scoring started with the Tigers defense giving their offense the ball on their own 26 yard line. Two plays later with 14:51 on the clock, QB #9 Johnson goes (left , then right, then left again or was that right) for a 20 Yard Touchdown run to put the Tigers back in the lead 16 – 12. The Tigers failed to convert the extra point.

The score Tigers 16 – Raiders 12.

Remember the theme for the second half … I am my worst enemy?

Tigers ball deep in Raiders territory, 2:04 left on the clock, time running out for the Raiders. Once again it’s the Raiders defense that does the job as the Tigers fumble the ball in the end zone and the Raiders recover the ball for a touchdown. Putting them up by 2 points 18 -16. This time the point after was good.

The score Tigers 16 – Raiders 19.

With less than two minuets left in the game The Tigers found themselves 60 long yards away from a win, a tie to go into overtime or a season ending loss on the road.

With :35 left on the clock faced with a 4th down and long. The Tigers decided to go for the tie. Tigers Kicker # 20 Palacios welcomed the opportunity and with the confidence of the entire Tigers team behind him, kicked the 31 yard field goal to tie the score 19 – 19.

The score at the end of regulation play Tigers 19 – Raiders 19.

Overtime

After 7 plays in a drive that took 78 yards Coach Murphy decided it was time to end the game as he sent #20 Palacios back on the field to kick a 34 yard field goal for the win in overtime. With 9:14 left in overtime Palacios split the uprights to give the Tigers the Win.

The score Wilmington Tigers 22 – Jacksonville Raiders 19.
